She was born in rural Rolla on November 24, 1937 to the late Emil and Alpha (Hayes) Vitzhum.
In May of 1977 she married Albert Wilson, who survives.
Viola graduated from Rolla High School in 1956. She worked for the U.S. Geological Survey in Rolla as a cartographer for many years retiring in 1986.
She was a member of the Hobson Community Church.
